The outside belies the beautiful interior. You will be surrounded by color. I found the artwork on walls, on booth backs, and tables interesting and enjoyable. There is a lot to take in. Check out the three metal musicians atop the room divider and the bird on a swing hanging from the ceiling. This place is big.Two dining rooms and a separate bar. Nice old-fashioned wood bar and shelves, decorated with lights that change color behind the glasses and bottles. Patterned tiles in front of the bar stools. Chandeliers were artistic colored glass.

Now about the food...spouse enjoyed the Burrito El Meson. I loved the Juanitos Tacos. 3 corn or flour tortilla tacos, one beef, one pork, and one chorizo. The chorizo had outstanding flavor. If you enjoy food with some heat, try this. Be sure to use the lime wedges and ask for their mildly hot salsa verde and sour cream to cool it down. The one item we weren't fond of was the salsa served with tortilla chips. It was a bit watery and with a bit too much chili powder. Enormous soft drinks. Huge menu.

Good for groups. I want to come here with a group of my friends and spend the afternoon eating tacos and drinking margaritas.

We've been to El Meson sporadically over the last year. My husband likes it, probably because of the generous portions. I have 2 complaints.
    1) We have received orders with the wrong meet encased in the tortilla on 3 occasions. The 1st time we brought it to the staff's attention. They seemed confused so we just said never mind.
    2) The dishes are seasoned and prepared for Indiana palates. Not very spicy. Heavy sauces that add bulk, not flavor.
We were there Saturday and had the meat mix up problem. I'm sure we will go there again at some point, but is low on my list of Mexican restaurants.

Omg.. this place is whimsically beautiful and very Mexican decor. I love it!!! Love all the bright colors too!!
And the booths are very comfy!! Now the food review. The staff is very connected to radios. They are moving around like a well organized circus! Hehe. Our chips n salsa was great plus we ordered a large Queso... wow soooo good we dropped it on us lol!  Hubby wanted carnitas fajitas and I ordered two chili rellieno al la cart. Omg the chilies were awesome. We had one each. And I had one tortilla with carnitas and I was full! We ended taking a box Togo for tomorrow!! I'm bookmarking this place next time we r in Indy!!

Large well lit, colorful chairs.  Lots of TV's.
    Tableside fresh guacamole.
Chils were warm but not thin.  Just ok.  Salsa was weak.
Chicken Adoboro was ok.  Butterflied chicken breast was very thin and dry.
My wife said fajitas were kind of bland.

We've been here several times since it opened, and I've got to say, yes, I'm a fan.

The decor just makes me happy when I walk inside!  It's bright and cheery and there's a mural on the south wall that is just stunning.  It just brightens my day to walk in here.

The food is pretty standard Mexican restaurant fare in Indy--that is to say it's a bit Americanized.  That's not necessarily a BAD thing, but if you've traveled to other parts of the country with a bit more traditional Mexican restaurants, you'll be aware of it.

Chips and salsa are in plentiful supply,   I must say I am a fan of the salsa.

Although service has never been what I'd call bad, it's been a tad slow on a couple of occasions.  Still, I like it quite a lot and we visit pretty often.
